REPLICATE project: Urban Platform flagship project of the European Commission

DISIT lab is contributing with the ICT infrastructure for data collection, semantic aggregation and producing smart services. REPLICATE is exploiting and contributing to the Km4City solution Http://www.km4city.org

Florence will be the only Italian city to be involved in REPLICATE, the project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 framework programme aimed to develop “smart” technologies in the fields of energy, transport and information and communication technologies (ICT). The Municipality of Florence was the winner of the call on this European project together with the Spanish city of San Sebastian and the British city of Bristol.

The city of Florence will receive €10 million allocated to the project – of which 7 are European funds and 3 come from private partners – to develop solutions for sustainable mobility, energy saving and smart facilities, e.g. video-surveillance systems, public LED illumination and wi-fi connection.

In Italy, REPLICATE will be coordinated by the Municipality of Florence and will involve researchers from the DISIT Lab (Distributed Systems and Internet Technology Lab) of the Department of Information Engineering (DINFO) of the University of Florence, coordinated by Paolo Nesi, who will be responsible for implementing ICT technologies and develop interface systems for citizens.

The project also involves over 30 Italian public and private partners, including the National Research Council (CNR), Enel Distribuzione, Telecom Italia-Tim and Thales. The project will start in January 2016 in the Florence neighbourhoods of Novoli, Cascine and Piagge.
